How to Calculate Slot Size on a Wedge Wire Screen | ERQI WIRE

Slot size on a wedge wire screen comes from how the V-wire is wrapped, not a catalogue number. A plain look at profile, pitch and support bar.

The slot on a wedge wire screen is not a number we pick out of thin air — it comes out of how the V-wire is wrapped. Three things decide it: the wire profile, the pitch between wraps, and the support bar the wire lands on.

Start with the particle

Rule of thumb we use with customers: the slot should be roughly two to three times the size of the particles you want to pass, and smaller than the ones you want to keep. Size it off the mesh you are actually screening, not a catalogue number.

Where the wire meets the bar

The V-wire leg welds to the support bar; the gap between adjacent welds is the open slot. A longer leg or a tighter pitch closes the slot; a shorter leg or wider pitch opens it. That is why the same 2.5×4 wire can give different slots depending on how it is wrapped.

Don't forget blinding

Too tight a slot and the screen blinds; too open and you lose product. If you are between sizes, err open and clean more often — a blinded screen costs more than a slightly wider slot. See our wedge wire range or send the screen type and we will suggest a profile.
