Square wire is what you reach for when a part has to sit in a fixed orientation and stay there. Two flat faces at right angles give a corner that locates the part in a slot or a moulded pocket, so it cannot spin the way round wire does.
Ours is cold-drawn from 304, 316L or 430 stainless and held to ±0.02 mm across the flats. Corners come sharp for a tight fit into a machined groove, or lightly radiused when the wire is handled or coated and a sharp edge would catch. If the part is a fastener, a frame or a grille bar, square 4×4 is a common starting size.
